Papers

I want to post my papers, English, Psychology, and French, as I write them, but name-changes and other edits are necessary. I refuse to put real names online without the person's consent, and some of the situations would have to be either slightly changed or removed entirely to protect privacy.

My paper about Jamake Highwater and the hypocrisy of his views on Native culture vs Occidental culture will definitely be posted. Evil evil people, forcing us to watch a one-sided, narrow-minded video by a man who is so pissed off about the way he was raised that he has to apply it to the entire Western civilization.

Bitch. The idea that he grew up in abject poverty, speaking Blackfoot and FRENCH, but blames ENGLISH for his problems is fucked.

The example he gives in both his essay and in the video (some PBS video from late 70's/early 80's) is that of the word "duck." He says that in Blackfoot, duck is meksikatsi, which means "pink-colored feet." Fine. He had trouble with the English word, because it isn't descriptive. But he says he grew up speaking French as well, in which duck is translated "canard." Canard has about as much descriptive meaning as duck.

He's full of shit.

Adolescence

I was never a teenager.

Well, obviously I was one at some point, but only physically. I never went through all the shit that most teens do. I never worried about what I looked like or what people thought of me. Most of my days were spent reading or playing sports.

What did I miss out on?

Technical problems

The plug for my laptop just started smoking and had to be unplugged/thrown away.

Anyone know where I can get a plug for a 2+ year old Sony Vaio 10" laptop? Cheap and fast is preferable (just how I like my women).

Gmail "Quote of the Day"

Mark Twain - "Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect."

Does Gmail ever post non-anti-establishment quotes? Anyone know?

Also, in reading Le Monde online, I came across the following article (use babelfish.altavista.com to translate if you don't read French) about Google creating a "Search Across Computers" option in their Desktop Search.

I think I'm upset at this invasion of privacy. How many people are going to enable this without knowing exactly what it does?

Fils des putains.

Censorship

Apparently behind the Chinese firewall, one cannot access Blog*Spot blogs.

What in FUCKING HELL is Google doing, allowing themselves to be censored by a government?!

I wish I didn't have to leave, because I have so much more to say on this topic.

Alas, I have a paper due in an hour and a half that isn't written.

Haven't we been over this before?

You don't bite the mommy.

Seriously.

Mommy's fingers are NOT for biting. Rubbing against? Sure. Playing with? Only when they're under the blanket. Biting?

NO.

Bad kitty.

(as Sarai runs around and acts like a total nutjob)

The Boy thinks we have a ghost cat. He was in the kitchen and thought he saw Sarai sitting in the living room window. He said "hi", and then went back into the bedroom. Both the cats were in the bedroom, asleep.

Interesting.

Explains the kitty insanity.

I don't believe it

My French book is trying to teach me social responsibility.

Excuse me while I go puke now.

Fucking French.

Pissiness

I guess school things should fall under work...right? It is a second job, after all.

I'm amazed by how power-obsessed some people are here. There's a sense of "I'm the professor, therefore I have all the control and everyone else needs to obey everything I say."

We're adults. There's a time to exert authority, which is fine, but there's also a way to exert authority. And that is not to embarrass students or be assholes.

There is no reason to bitch out a student for using a cellphone. Even though there are signs up, some students may just be listening to messages or finishing up a call. In that case, you simply ask nicely for the student to take it outside, and point at the sign. That should be enough.

I have so much more to say on this topic. But even the above looks convoluted and weird to me, so I think I'm going to leave the English language alone for a while and head off to French class. At least that's a language I can think in at the moment.

Puppy Bowl

By the way, both the kittens adored the Puppy Bowl.

They were less impressed by the Bissel Halftime Show.

Odd.

Existence is overrated.

I'm tired.

So tired.

I've written so much, but don't have the energy to transcribe it.

I'm still here. I promise.
