Technical problems
The plug for my laptop just started smoking and had to be unplugged/thrown away.
Anyone know where I can get a plug for a 2+ year old Sony Vaio 10" laptop? Cheap and fast is preferable (just how I like my women).

Hosting Matters problems?
Um...is anyone else having trouble getting to Insta and other HM-hosted sites, or is it just me?
Their status page doesn't say anything, and the main site seems to be down. Technorati doesn't seem to have anything about it either.
Of course a Google search is useless. Always is when it comes to things like this.
UPDATE: Just went to the emergency forums. Here is what they say about it.
So why can't I get through to Insta still?
SECOND UPDATE: Ah. There we go. Weird how I could get through to my site, but not his.

First Cash Card, Inc., Being Acquired by Relay Capital Corp, Approaches $1 million in Transactions
About Relay Capital Corporation:
Relay Capital Corporation is a developer and marketer of a wide range of prepaid financial services, including pre-paid stored value cards, reward cards, employee payroll cards, gift, retail and affinity group cards, travel cards and fund transfer cards. Relay Capital Corporation encompasses both the marketing and distribution of pre-paid and pay-transfer cards in concert with the development of loading centers. Loading centers are retail locations, such as convenience stores, check cashing facilities or other types of retail facilities serving to dispense or receive cash facilitating transactions for the stored-value card consumer.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz..(MARKET WIRE)--Oct. 16, 2005.First Cash Card, Inc., a Canadian marketer and issuer of debit cards, that is being acquired by U.S. based Relay Capital Corp. (Other OTC:RLYC.PK), reported that it has processed close to $1 million in transactions over the last few months.
What does this mean? Everytime someone uses one of these cards at an ATM, a Point of Sale, or in any manner, Relay Capital makes money.
.We feel these initial numbers indicate the tremendous Canadian market opportunity for Relay Capital and us,. said Phil Kueber, First Cash Card.s president. .We have barely touched the surface with the first 700 cards we have issued. The next step is to issue 4,300 more cards we have readied for this market..
With 5,000 cards in circulation, the profit potential is phenomenal. And that's only the very beginning. Relay plans to aggressively market these new debit cards across the U.S. and Canada, so these 5,000 cards are only a scratch on the surface of the market Relay has the opportunity to serve. Debit cards represent nearly 70% of all financial transactions in the United States. The Relay Capital debit cards can be used on the Maestro, Cirrus, and other ATM networks, and carry the VISA or MasterCard brands for greater purchasing power, Relay Capital debit cards can be used at MILLIONS of locations, worldwide.
.We are very pleased with the high dollar volume of transactions on the First Cash Card and expect to rapidly expand this platform in the U.S. and Canadian markets,. said E. Reese Bogle, III, Relay Capital's CEO. .An additional opportunity it offers Relay Capital, is the ability to issue debit cards for use in the United States and throughout the world under the rules and regulations of Canadian Financial institutions and Canadian currency..
Relay Capital also participates in a widespread effort to distribute relief funds to recent hurricane victims. Prepaid debit cards are the preferred method of distributing disaster relief funds, and have been widely used to distribute funds to Hurricane Katrina victims.
First Cash Card can be used at over 5 million ATM machines and over 1 million Point of Sale (POS) terminals worldwide. Its principle growth has been in the check cashing industry where employees can obtain a First Cash Card at no charge. First Cash Cards allows $2,500 in ATM daily withdrawals and $2,500 in POS transactions. Cards can also be used to purchase goods and services over the Internet for .e-tailers. who provide I-debit. It is anticipated that in the next month, cards will also provide "card-to bank" transfers, allowing cardholders to transfer funds from their cards to a traditional bank account.
About First Cash Card, Inc.:
First Cash Card, Inc. provides debit cards to the unbanked and underbanked in Canada. It makes it easy, fast, and secure for individuals and businesses to buy goods and services using automatic teller machines (.ATM.s.) and point of sale (.POS.) terminals, providing them with many of the benefits and of services heretofore offered by a prime bank. Asses.
I did a bit of research, coming to their website. I then emailed their info address, telling them exactly what I thought of their spam, and what they should do to the person they hired to send it to me.
It bounced.
Asses.
I'm going to directly email the person who sent this to me, and tell them where to stick it. I refuse to be on the receiving end of this crap.

Microsoft
During the process of fixing spyware/malware/virus problems on an office computer, I attempted to go to microsoft update.
It told me I had to be running Internet Explorer.
I'm using Firefox, since it's a better browser with fewer bugs.
Microsoft is an ass. They can really go fuck themselves.

Downtime
Hosting Matters, WebHostGods that they are, had some problems with a DOS attack. Things are mostly back up, though I'm still having a few problems that may or may not be related to the wireless network, rather than the server.
On a side note, if I do go down, I'll see if I can create a blogspot blog and give the URL to one of my linkers.
In terms of New Orleans, the hurricane and the relief blogging...I'm not sure I can participate, as much as I'd like to. I just get too emotional right now, and running on as little sleep as I've had the last two nights, I'm really not capable of handling intense emotion.
I've had Greenday on repeat the whole day. Yay for headphones.

Success!
I am good.
Just taught myself quite a bit of CSS over the last couple days and came up with a great design.
Only problem is that being for 800x600, it comes out a bit odd on any larger resolutions.
Hmm...

CSS
If any of my three readers are experienced CSS coders, please email me. I'm having huge issues with one element of a new site, and I need help. I can't find anything about it through google, and the forums I've posted on aren't helping at all.
This is getting ridiculous, I've been working on this since...oh...3:30ish this afternoon.

Fucking IM programs
Here I am, trying to code this stupid site (not this one, another one) and trying to talk to the other person involved in this, but neither one of us can get on AIM, because of some massive fuckup that I can't find any information about and I just want to get THIS FUCKING THING DONE ALREADY!
Add into that the lack of knowledge I have of CSS and my inability to get it to render properly in Notepad, and you have one frustrated, overheated, caffeine-craving Kat.

A Sports Photographer I Am Not
But I think these are decent photos. You tell me.
Also, I have video, but like a schmuck, I turned the camera on it's side and I have no video editing software. So we'll just have to wait on that.
Now THAT's close.
Yeah, so they got a run off Pedro. He's not known for good first innings.
They pulled that sign up pretty quickly...
Minkai...Mainke...Mienkev...Mientkiewicz just R0x3rs da big one.
Oh yeah, Pedro baby. Just like that.
This one is for Michele. I know it's impossible to see, but that's Jeter hitting a single in his last at-bat. (UPDATE: this is also for Karol.)
Well, that's it. I tried to fix the movies of the drunken raving Yankee fan who was screaming "Hideki Matsui! Sign my jersey! Come here and sign my jersey!" But it didn't work.

MS Access 2002 Database and Wireless Networking
Now, I have a wide range of emotions. But to be this close to a total breakdown is rare for me. This fucking database has me practically in tears.
Here's the problem:
A database, created by a third party for (company name removed) is on computer A. Computers B, C, and D are all on a secured wireless network, supposedly with full privilages to access and edit said database.
I was working on computer B yesterday, inputting data and at around 2:30pm, suddenly started getting "disk or network read error" messages.
I thought it was the network, since the database itself seemed to be unaffected. However, the problem lasted through today. Nothing seems to fix it. I installed Windows updates, Office updates, and went crawling through forums and knowledge bases, trying to teach myself enough about the program to figure it out. Now, I know enough to build and manage a MySQL database. But put Access or OLE in front of me, and I have no idea what I'm doing.
One of the things I noticed, which I don't think is normal, is that the "attribute" read-only in the Properties menu is ticked. Now, that wouldn't be terrible, untick it, apply, ok, and move on. But no. It will untick, it will seem like it's listening to you, and then it comes back up and says "nope, I'm still read-only and you can't do anything about it, no matter how much you want to delude yourself".
I'm at my wits end. If anyone can help, PLEASE help. This has to be done ASAP, as there is much need for it to work and work correctly.

Goddamnit, not again
Firefox has gone belly-up on me.
If anyone is willing to help attempt to fix it, I'd be very grateful.
This is a laptop, so I can easily bring it somewhere for someone to play with. Manhattan only though.
Bah. I know I could fix it myself, I'm just too lazy to do so.

Work Site
There may be some major changes around here in the next few days. Trying out new designs, messing around with code in general...If something doesn't look right, or if the site disappears, email lyinsan -at- gmail -dot- com with the problem.
BTW, I'm using Firefox on Windows XP (not by choice, I can't get my Linux build to work), so if you have something different, let me know. It may simply be a matter of standards.
I'm going to sleep now. I swear. See you in a couple hours.

Growl
Whatever our colocation people did to the database connection, they have to undo it. NOW.
The system has gone down twice today, the connection is shit, and the database is having all sorts of errors.
I'm getting pissed and ready to call it a day.
But I can't. Too many clients and potential clients to call.

Links and Readable Places to Click
I need to do a couple major things to this site. One is change the colors/css. The other is add all my links.
I don't particularly feel like staring at code for another couple hours. Spent the last day creating databases for market research and cost-benefit analysis. And dealing with my tech-illiterate boss/uncle, who doesn't even know how to maximize a Word window. Or any window, for that matter.
Ow, my poor head...Need sleep...
Oh, there's more to do? Yay.

The Struggle is Won
Archives work. So does everything else, supposedly. If anything is wrong, email me at lyinsan -at- gmail -dot- com.
Other than that, the real entries should begin shortly.

Archive Issues
Le sigh. Le gasp. Le moan.
Ok. Enough with the Pepe LePew.
My archive pages aren't working. MT-Load was putting the index and archive pages in the wrong place, I was having to move them manually. Now I have to figure out if I moved them to the wrong place.
I'll figure this out at some point. Just not right now.
Hopefully all the issues will be fixed by tonight and I'll be able to get started on the design tomorrow.

Install Issues
Bah. I chose HostingMatters because of their great reputation, and their support for blogs/MovableType.
And what happens? I get my site up and running, with only a few issues here and there, and their servers go down.
The irony doesn't escape me.
