Working behind the scenes
I'm still here, and I'll be resuming blogging at some point in the near future.
It's been a long year. The new URL for this blog, fallenicarus.net reflects the changes I've gone through. Now I'm picking up the pieces.
Bear with me please, and don't remove me from blogrolls. I'm not gone, just lurking. Spring is on its way, and I'll be hot on its tail.
Meanwhile, as a show of good faith, here's me with the Little Orange Princess, Her Royal Highness Athena.

Mark this day well, it's the first time I've shown a photo of my face on this site.

I could get money for blogging?
So...There's this site which declares itself "progressive" and "liberal." I call it hogwash, but then that's me.
They're offering a scholarship to people who participate in the site. I feel like I should challenge their progressive thoughts by joining up, blowing them all away, and then getting banned from the site for sounding conservative.
Mwuahahahahaha.
Have I mentioned I'm evil?
Yeah. Evil. And I enjoy the hell out of it.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Back off, bitches.
I'm here. Spring break was one of those "fall on bed and sleep the whole thing away" things.
School has started again. I'm going back and forth as to whether or not I want to take classes this summer, just because the idea of getting out of school makes me happy, but so does keeping my summer free.
Ideas?

Questions
What makes a blog interesting to read, and why do I feel like mine will never draw anyone in who doesn't know me?

Blogspot splogs
I am thisclose to banning blogspot domains from posting trackbacks or comments to my blog.
FUCKING SPLOGS!!!! GET THE FUCK OFF MY SITE!
On a similar note, how do I close old entries? I need a plugin, don't I?

Hi there
Ok. So if you haven't heard from me in a long time, it has nothing to do with you. I'm extremely busy right now. Two jobs, preparing for college, and dealing with financial issues have really screwed with me lately. So I have a lot to say, and no time to say it in.
Do me a favor? I'm going to put both paypal and amazon buttons up. I tried to keep this site ad-free and begging-free, but my situation is changing with school, and I really could use some help. If you want to do something simple, just click through the ad(s) on the side (Adsense is screwing with me, and it's just a charity ad right now) or hit up the paypal/amazon buttons when you have a chance.
Thanks.

Meme time
Yes, Barry, I will respond to the tag.
Just not right now. Just got a new job (yeah, the last one didn't really work out) and the holidays fried me a bit.
I have a cookie photo to post, kitty photos begging for captions, and a goofy story, plus some political commentary coming up.
I'll get there.

Merry Christmas!
I hope you all enjoy your holiday, and thank you to whoever it was that sent the little not-so-anonymous e-card. It was adorable.
I love you, readers, even if you don't do more than lurk.

Blogspot weirdness
Is anyone else having problems getting to blogspot sites? I can't seem to get through to any of them, and it's starting to annoy me.

Bored
I have nothing to blog about.
I have rants.
I have raves.
I have things to share and opinions to hand down from on high.
I have nothing to blog about.
I hate Thanksgiving.

Sorry, commenters...
I apparently blocked "http" in blacklist.
Hazard of de-spamming 35 trackbacks in five minutes.
Oops. Sorry. Try again.

How many blogs?
The Blog Herald (found through a message board for internet marketers) says there are over 100,000,000 blogs. I assume he means active blogs.
I disagree. I think that when you count out the splogs, one-post inactive blogs, and people who have stopped blogging but have left their sites up, you probably have less than 10 percent of that. I know I have at least three or four out there that might still be "on the web" but not active.
I call bullshit.

Blog Values
This has been popping up around the 'sphere.
Thought I'd give it a shot

My blog is worth $31,049.70.
How much is your blog worth?
Huh. Look at that.

Why the HELL didn't anyone tell me?!
Mean Mr. Mustard started up again over a year ago!
Damnit, I used to love his writing. Glad to see him back. He goes on my sidebar.

Frappr
Yes, yes, thanks to Barry, I am now on Frappr. The link is on the side, under banners. Click, tell me where you are, and have fun!
Oh, and what do you think of the new design? The banner will go after Halloween and the colors will stick around till after Thanksgiving. So you have time to tell me if they really don't work.

Bye.
Back in 2001, she was one of the people who inspired me to start blogging. She made me realize that a blog wasn't just what Insta wrote, or Jeff Jarvis - it could be personal as well as political.
Thanks.

Conspiracy Nuts
It seems like the conspiracy nuts are coming out of the woodwork lately. The NYRA forums have had a couple, especially one who I had to put on my Ignore list just so I wouldn't raise my blood pressure any further.
Any suggestions for links I can send which will give the breakdown of the engineering, archetecture, and physics of 9/11? Of why it was the result of a plane and not a controlled destruction?

Yay!
I missed you, Jeff. You know I'm here if you need anything. Well, anything that doesn't require I get on a plane and fly to Texas.

I'm highly disturbed - again
The MSM is all over this terrorism threat, but the blogosphere seems to be ignoring it.
I'd like to know what my fellow bloggers think, but no one (except Michele) has anything, even a mention.
Seriously. The first credible threat against the NYC subway system, and no one says anything?

Overly strict blacklist.
Ok. Because I blocked a couple different strings to try to reduce spam, I ended up blocking some comments and a few trackbacks.
The string has been changed to moderate, rather than block. We'll see if that helps.
If your trackback or comment has been blocked in the last month, try again. I swear it should work.
And in the future, if there's a problem, email me. I don't know that something's wrong unless my readers tell me. I don't tend to check my blacklist logs.

Oddness in the Blogosphere
I realized that I hadn't read Jeff in a while. Like, a long while.
I've also been somewhat hard to reach through either email or IM, since I've been busy as fuck.
So I figure, I need to know what's going on with him. I punch in his URL, and see the following as the top post

Hiatus
Personal circumstances necessitate a short hiatus. Days at least, possibly weeks.
Well now I just feel bad for not checking earlier or IMing him the other night when I saw him online.
Whatever is going on, Jeff, I hope you're ok, and I hope to be reading your vitriol again soon.
*hugs*

Party!!!
PARTAY!!!
This Friday. Karol is putting it together.
If you're a NYC blogger and not already invited, email her for more info. We outgrew the place we were going to hold this shindig in, and she's working on finding another one.
I will be bringing my bartending flash cards so we can have odd shots/shooters and play "stump the bartender".
Hehehehe
