"Willy Wonka, WIlly Wonka..."

One word...

Disturbing.

Below the fold due to spoilers...

Wonderful movie. Beautiful reference to Edward Scissorhands, another one to Nightmare Before Christmas, and probably a couple others I missed.

Depp was truly bizzare, and a perfect choice. Gene Wilder is still a better Wonka, but Depp adds a kind of twisted logic that Wilder never had.

Burton is amazing. Pure genius.

There were a few complaints I had, one being that the ending had nothing to do with the book, another being that Christopher Lee's character, Willy's father, is a creature made especially for this movie. They have him in the middle of a snow-covered hill, in the middle of nowhere, in a London townhouse. I don't get it.

The whole thing was too much of a Journey and not enough of an Adventure.

But I still loved it.

*sigh*

The Oompa Loompas really got me too. The scenes in LoompaLand were beautifully rendered, looks exactly as I pictured.

And the Glass Elevator was actually a CUBE! Not a weird thingy with a pointed top!

My recommendation, if you read all this way and haven't seen it yet, is to go see it. Now.

Just make sure there aren't any children in the audience. This is not for those who are scared or disturbed easily.
