Sawx take the series.

Now all they have to do is play smart. They got away with playing stupid today, but that won't cut it against a team like the Yanks or the CWS.

Baseball Statistics public domain or not?

According to CNN, MLB is trying to claim that the player statistics are their intellectual property.

Morons.

I hope they get their ass kicked in court. How in the name of all that is holy can they try this stunt?!

Via Slashdot.

Gameday

Oh happy day...

I had perfect seats for the Sox game yesterday.

And I have pictures.

I have a picture of Papi whinging one so hard it probably broke the hand of the guy in the stands who caught it.

Though I missed Graffanino whailing it over the Monster.

Photos to come.

RSN

When I'm in NH in the summer, only one thing matters - Baseball.

And when I have a decent spot of money (as I do now) I buy tickets.

These particular tickets are in LOGE 20.

Directly behind home base.

Second set of boxes back...129NN.

I am psyched, and ready to go.

Monday Night, here I COME!!!!!

(In the meantime, hit the banner at the top. I'd like a couple more pledges before tonight)

Cakewalk

Figures that the first Sox game on NESN I get to see in months and it's against fucking KC.

Kansas City.

With the pitcher having an 8.59 ERA.

Oh well.

Doesn't look like I'll be able to get to an actual Sox game this month, though I'd like to. Maybe I'll call up and see if there are tickets instead of using the MLB.com ticketing system. Could be something funky with their system.

And Wade Miller just pisses away the fucking lead. 3-2 in the bottom of the 1st.

Sox notes

Two things.

1) Clement released from hospital

And we all breathe a sigh of relief. Not even a concussion.

I still worry about his mental health, and, by extention, the health of the team.

2)FUCKING WAKEFIELD!!!!

That is all. You may return to your regularly scheduled chaos now.

Manny wants out

This isn't news, but my favorite quote from this story comes from Francona:

``When was this, when he was pissing in the scoreboard?'' bemused Sox manager Terry Francona said yesterday when informed of a Sports Illustrated report that Ramirez has (again) asked to be traded. ``I'm at a loss on that one. You guys can have fun with that one because I know it'll have some legs for a couple of days. So go ahead and knock yourselves out.''

The Sox thrive on the chaos that is Fenway. They're unkempt, riled up, and always saying something stupid. It's one of the reasons I love them. They are representative of America right now.

Clement update

No new information on Clement, unfortunately. I don't think we'll hear anything until this afternoon or evening.

In the meantime, I've been involved in conversations in a couple of different threads. Expressing pretty much the same emotion, the same understanding, and the same willingness to focus on not only his health, but the health of the entire team as a result.

TC over at Darkside is severely misunderstanding this.

Yanksfan vs Soxfan is a good example of how most Boston fans are reacting right now.

We want him to be ok. We want him to be healthy. We want him to not be afraid of the ball.

We want this for the entire team. When your pitcher gets banged around like that, it affects the team. This is a man you work with every day, spend more time with than probably anyone except your family, and probably more time during the season, pre-season and post-season. It is a huge concern, and can destroy a team.

That one moment can make or break this team. Not just for this season, but for the next few seasons. It can have major repercussions over the second half of this decade.

And who knows what those players will take to other teams?

Mental health is not something to be sneezed at. It's critical, especially in a game that relies on their egos and lack of fear.

I don't want to see many careers shattered because of a ball to the head.

Clear enough for you, TC?

Now back the fuck off. You don't know me, you don't know how I'm reacting, and I think the fact that I posted the articles before anyone else in the blogosphere says a HELL of a lot.

Idiot Third Base Coach

Seriously. The fucking 3rd base coach almost blew it for us.

Waving Olreud home on THAT?!

Thank god the boys seem to be coming back...

Though this may be too soon to speak. Bottom of the 9th, no outs.

UPDATE: Yeah, spoke too soon.

Francona really needed to pull Schilling out before the 10th. PUT TIMLIN IN YOU FUCKING IDIOT!

I scream in my blog because I can't scream at the TV. No NESN here.

MORE: Phew. That was painful. Can't Francona see what was going on there? Schilling can't go more than 15, maybe 20 pitches right now. No endurance. What does the fucking manager do? Leaves him in for two innings, 32 pitches.

Bah. At least it's over, and the Idiots In Red won.

This one is for Michele. I know it's impossible to see, but that's Jeter hitting a single in his last at-bat. (UPDATE: this is also for Karol.)

Well, that's it. I tried to fix the movies of the drunken raving Yankee fan who was screaming "Hideki Matsui! Sign my jersey! Come here and sign my jersey!" But it didn't work.

Red Sox analysis

Disclaimer: I am not an analyst, I am not a sportscaster, I do not work for the Sox or any other MLB team or other major sports franchise. In fact, the closest I come to having an expert opinion on any of this is having been to a shitload of games and having lots of discussions with other MLB-obsessed fans.

That being said...

(momentary interruption for cherry tomato and blue cheese dressing)

The Sox are starting to look like, well, The Sox. The idiots from last year. Cowboy up of 2003.

Manny looks like Manny. Ortiz is hitting them out of the pahk. Wells, Clement, Wakefield...The backbone of our pitching staff. Even Foulke looked good last night. We have Youklis, who should be played a lot more than he is. Millar, Muller, Bellhorn.

Not even our bullpen can seem to kill this rally.

So why don't I trust it?

I watched Pedro pitch on Sunday in Shea stadium. I was disappointed. He wasn't Pedro, he was some weak imitation. Almost, not quite, entirely unlike Pedro*. And that's how the boys feel. They aren't themselves.

Now, I can never be called a pollyanna, but I'm certainly not a crusty, cynical old fogey either. (mmm...These tomatoes really are good. What was I saying?) If they win, I'm happy. But when their wins were based off of fielding errors, or a pitcher's bad night, or shitty baserunning by the other team, I got upset. I want to see them play like they want it.

I don't need the intensity of last year. No team can keep that up for an entire season. But I would like to see something more than what they have been showing us. I want to see the crazy hits, the small ball followed up by one slammed out of the pahk. I want to see wicked good baseball.

I'm not getting it. And I feel robbed.

I'm taking a wait and see tactic. So we'll wait and see.

And in the meantime, I'm finishing these tomatoes. Damn they're good.

*Kudos to anyone who gets the quote.

I don't trust it. I expect them to break my heart again.

Weekend

This is going to be an interesting weekend.

Some good friends of mine (the ones with the two girls I babysit) are moving to CT on June 3rd. This means I only get to see them occasionally.

I need to buy the youngest her birthday present. No idea what to get her. Probably end up picking up a Maurice Sendak book for when she's older. Pair it with one of the stuffed monsters from Where The Wild Things Are.

My mom is coming down to the city for the weekend. It's also my uncle's birthday, so we'll be celebrating that. Need to get him a present/card.

Need to pay bills. Have no money. Being poor sucks.

Won't hear from CUNY for another month. Waiting sucks.

I'm trying to finish up a video game (Kingdom Hearts) which has me in its clutches.

AND...

The most major event of the weekend...THE SOX PLAY THE YANKEES!

GO SOX!

KICK THEIR ASSES!

YANKEES SUCK!

I love you all and I love the Passionfruit.

(If you know what that means, email me. We may have a lot in common. If you don't, you won't get it. Inside joke.)

Another Baseball Post

If you don't like baseball, ignore this one too.

The Sox need to win another couple games. This isn't an option. I want to see us more than 3.5 up from the Yankees in the standings. I don't mind that we're 4 down, but it would be very nice if we could close that gap.

But in order to do that, our bullpen needs to sharpen up. Foulke needs to not be pitching every game. Close out with Timlin occasionally. Get Wells off the DL. Get Schilling healthy and able to pitch the kind of game he's pitched in the past. No more of these 4 or 5 inning games for our starters.

Oh, and Ortiz and Ramirez need to start earning their money. Too many strikeouts. Not enough slugging.

The Realization of a Dream

The home of a defending world champion - Boston Red Sox!

Best phrase ever.

OPENING DAY!!!!!!!

The opening day people have been waiting for for 86 years.

Doesn't get better than this.

Presentation of rings...I never thought I'd see this day. The Yankees playing in Fenway under a WS banner.

Not sure I could be happier than right now.

1903
1912
1913
1916
1918
and over them all...
2004.

This is just beautiful. And the military men and women are probably all Sox fans.

Oh just look at that gorgeous pile of boxes.

LETS GO RED SOX!

That's the cool thing about Fenway. You can hear not only the announcers, the music, and the banging on walls, but the chanting.

The presentation of rings! *squeal*

I love that the POPS and the BSO are the ones providing the music. The choice of songs are just brilliant. 2001, Impossible Dream...

And look. They get a red carpet.

I really can't believe I'm watching this.

And it's such a perfect day. So beautiful. The sun is just gleaming on the grass.

And of course to have this in front of the Yankees...We couldn't ask for anything better.

Wow. The cheers really pick up for Varitek. And they go wild for Lowe.

There will never be a greater day in Boston. Nothing beats this.

And up comes Jesus. The crowd goes insane.

For Big Papi, what else but Star Wars.

The Darkside has been vanquished.

God I wish I was there. Imagine having seats right above The Dugout.

Who woulda guessed that Bellhorn would be our saving grace?

Wow. A number of faces or names I don't really recognize. So far, no Nomar. Wonder if he's getting a ring?

Is that someone accepting for Martinez? Why the fuck are people booing?

Where'd they trade Leskanic to? Wasn't paying enough attention in the offseason.

And here comes the MAN! Schilling! I'd love to meet him someday. He is a GOD among men.

The Sox really are a team. Everyone provided something to the win. How often do you see that...

The music is just spectacular. I worship at Boston's feet. Fenway, the POPS, the Sox, the people, the fans...

Aaaaah.

Hm...I think that's the doctor...the true hero of WS04.

And a shot of the greatest chokers in baseball history.

Holy fucking shit. Pesky has a ring.

You really cannot get any nicer than that.

Pesky. Don't think he was even born the last time the Sox won.

I am in thorough awe right now. That ceremony has been long awaited, and to see the field of red and white moving through Fenway, celebrating...Oh My God...all these old players...

You can't have a WS celebration without them.

And there goes the banner. The real banner. And it's Pesky who raises it. With Yestremski

I'm trying to imagine what it would be like to sit on the Green Monster, watching that banner go up.

And so the season begins.

By battling our historic rivals...

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!! They're all cheering Mariano!!!!! You really...I'm not gonna say it again. You all know what I'm going to say.

Oh, and michele, EAT MY SHORTS!

Other Sox celebrations:

Green Monster

best.day.ever.

Oh, and bottom of the 3rd, 4-0 Sox.

Posted by Kat at 02:15 PM | Comments (0) | TrackBack

Sigh

I wish I had tickets to tomorrow's opening day game.

The banner, the ceremony...

Though after today, they had better pull something off tomorrow. Otherwise they're going to have a lot of disappointed fans.

Like me.

4-3. 4-fucking-3. Where's Pedro when we need him?

Oh. Right. Over at the Mets, saving their ass from a 0-6 losing streak.

Sigh.

Yankees SUCK

The title says it all.

Though Mariano really failed. Again. Totally blew it.

Not like the Sox closer is any better. Giving up that run...It killed me.

Hopefully I'll get to go to one of the Fenway games next week. I'd really enjoy that.

I swear...If the Sox don't get another Series in 80 years, I'll start throwing things.

Posted by Kat at 11:27 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack

April 03, 2005

Opening....Night?

How is this possible? Not only is it raining for the first Sox game of the season (granted, away, but I can deal with that for the moment), but they're playing the Yankees.

Wait...What? And it's at night? This makes no sense.

I'm going to stick my head in the sand for the next week.

If only I'd thought of it, I would have bought tickets to Opening Day in Boston. I'll be there anyway, shoulda just gone ahead and gotten them.

Maybe I'll find a good bar.

I love my team. Now someone confirm for me that they're having the banner-raising, WS celebration they deserve. Even though it's against the Yankees. Maybe because it's against the Yankees.
