Anyone want to write me up a release form?
Because if I can get my regulars to sign one, then maybe I can actually share some of the stories that make me think I work at the NYC version of Cheers.
No, I'm not kidding. My regulars are hilarious. Truly hilarious. They never fail to keep me amused, and they are the reason I love working at my job.
Bartending kicks ass. Especially at a classy place like mine (yeah right, we're all a bunch of little kids who can't stop thinking or talking about sex).

I don't believe it
My French book is trying to teach me social responsibility.
Excuse me while I go puke now.
Fucking French.

Pissiness
I guess school things should fall under work...right? It is a second job, after all.
I'm amazed by how power-obsessed some people are here. There's a sense of "I'm the professor, therefore I have all the control and everyone else needs to obey everything I say."
We're adults. There's a time to exert authority, which is fine, but there's also a way to exert authority. And that is not to embarrass students or be assholes.
There is no reason to bitch out a student for using a cellphone. Even though there are signs up, some students may just be listening to messages or finishing up a call. In that case, you simply ask nicely for the student to take it outside, and point at the sign. That should be enough.
I have so much more to say on this topic. But even the above looks convoluted and weird to me, so I think I'm going to leave the English language alone for a while and head off to French class. At least that's a language I can think in at the moment.

Job, Part Deux.
Eugh.
Tired, aching feet, and no money to show for it. That's what I get for training as a waitress.
But damn did I have fun. I love serving customers. There's just something really nice about it. There's a sense of having done something good for someone, and it's the reason I enjoy waitressing and bartending. There's skill involved in making people so happy they decide to stay, have another drink, and keep spending money.
Cause, in the end, it's the money that counts. If I can bring in a shitload of tips, I'll be ecstatic. And if I can move up to bartender soon, I'd be even more ecstatic.
So, if you're in NYC, and you want to help move me up to bartender from lowly waitress, let me know and I'll tell you when I work.
I don't want to get fired though, so I'll probably keep things fairly mum on here about it.

Job!
I'm headed off to my first day at Joshua Tree, on 3rd and 34th. If you want to stop by and try to pick me out (hah), feel free.
Let's see if my online persona and my offline one mesh.

Job Hunt
Oh.
My.
God.
I've been job hunting since 12:30 today. 7+ hours of walking around Manhattan talking to bar managers and owners and attempting to sell myself as a bartender.
Please please please tell me if there's a job out there that will take me now.
Please. Someone.
I'm literally on my knees begging here.

Working...
So the party nearly three weeks ago was at the K Lounge in Midtown.
I met the manager.
I'm now on the roster to fill in when they're lacking bar workers.
I'll post here when I know what nights I'll be working. Hopefully people can join me.

Working
I'm working on creating a new site - one that would draw on my experience both as a kid and as a childcare person, and eventually add in what I'm going to be learning in school. This will be a community, though. Although I'll be dictator of it. =)
I'm looking for parents, teachers, guardians, babysitters, kids, and anyone else who deals with kids and their problems on a daily (or almost-daily) basis. Email me for more details.
It'll use Drupal and be a community.
Only a few rules. No Bitching, treat the kids like adults, and no flame wars. Pretty laid back, if you ask me.

Graduation!
I am now a full-fledged bartender.
If you own a bar, manage a bar, or can think of a bar that would be good for me to work at, let me know. I'm open to pretty much anything at this point.
Yay!

Tylenol PM
Took some last night, so I could get rest, and feel really good today, so I can get some decent work done.
Instead of feeling refreshed, I feel foggy and dazed.
Knock the OTC sleeping pills off my list...
Any suggestions for good sleep? I've tried everything, but nothing seems to work more than once, and if it does, it leaves me groggy.
UPDATE: Not even the caffeine works. Sigh.

Fuck this.
There is shit going on which will probably result in my leaving my company.
As I am going to school in the fall, this is not a major issue, but would cause some problems. I would like to take up with a RE lawyer who is interested in branching out...But not sure that will work either.
In the meantime, I'm gonna lay low. If I do leave, I'll enumerate on the problems, as well as the company. Being an independant contractor means I only have to keep client problems private, not company problems.
Not to mention I'm not sure I signed the Non-disclosure form. Oops.

Real Estate first-time buyers
One thing a lot of first-time buyers will underestimate is the amount of time and effort that has to be put into a deal before it closes.
It isn't only the lawyers, mortgage broker, bank rep, and agent who have to put all this time in, it's the buyer. Every inch of the contract and point of sale must be gone over. If anything is out of place, it all goes back to the lawyers to be redone. Every "i" must be dotted and every "t" must be crossed.
On top of that, if you are working without an agent representing you, then the bank rep and mortgage broker have to be kept on top of. Appraisal, financing papers, walkthroughs...It's a difficult process, made more so if you are buying directly from an owner without an agent or firm representing them.
We are here to make everyone's lives easier. Most people don't realize that, and think brokers are just out to rip people off, to take advantage of a situation that cannot be changed.
Ok, some are. The majority of us are labled based on those few. Especially in NYC, where there are many brokers and many agents, and most of them have no idea what they are doing.
Do your research. How well does your broker know her market? Does she specialize? Is her specialty what you are looking for? Does her company have a good reputation? What is their focus - providing a huge database of listings or better service? Is she professional?
That last question can be a hard one to answer. If your broker is listening to you, asking the questions that get to the underlying reasons for your move, then she's a professional. If she is taking you around, showing you places that don't come close to what you need, rethink your association with her.
And most importantly, make certain she is always in contact. Email, phone, pager, it doesn't matter. You have to be able to ask her questions as soon as they come up. If an apartment or a house comes on the market and it fits your requirements, she should be calling you that day. If the apartment you want suddenly shows up on her website, call her and ask about it. Do not let anything slip past you.
If she is doing your job, you should be almost annoyed with the number of times she calls you throughout the day.
Next article: First-time Sellers.
After that I'll get into the differences between a co-op, condo, and house.
If you have questions, leave them in the comments and I'll put together an article. If enough are asked, I'll create an FAQ.

HouseValues.com
I saw the ad for this site on TV. Decided to try it out, as it could end up being a useful resource for pricing apartments and houses.
The whole thing is a scam.
They take the request and forward it to a local RE agent.
STAY AWAY.
Piece of shit.
Here's the email I got from them when putting in the info for the building I currently live in:
Thank you for visiting the HouseValues Web site to request your home's current market value and/or suggested listing price.Your request has been forwarded to a local real estate agent who specializes in your neighborhood and will be happy to provide this information to you by email. You can expect to receive a response from this agent within three business days.
If we do not currently have a specialist in your area, we will notify you by email. Thank you again for using the HouseValues.com service! Please feel free to encourage any friends and relatives who are planning to sell a home this year to visit www.housevalues.com to request a free current market report of their own.
Sincerely,
The HouseValues.com team

Growl
Whatever our colocation people did to the database connection, they have to undo it. NOW.
The system has gone down twice today, the connection is shit, and the database is having all sorts of errors.
I'm getting pissed and ready to call it a day.
But I can't. Too many clients and potential clients to call.

Work Sucks
I know. Sucky title. Sue me.
It's not even 9:30 in the morning, I've been out the past two nights with friends and alcohol, and I'm on day three of early-as-fuck classes.
Oy.
Welcome to my new readers. Trolls will be banned, Snark is always appreciated, and if you piss me off too much you will be exposed for the moron you are. Have fun, laugh, explore, and feel free to make fun of me and my odd obsessions.

Links and Readable Places to Click
I need to do a couple major things to this site. One is change the colors/css. The other is add all my links.
I don't particularly feel like staring at code for another couple hours. Spent the last day creating databases for market research and cost-benefit analysis. And dealing with my tech-illiterate boss/uncle, who doesn't even know how to maximize a Word window. Or any window, for that matter.
Ow, my poor head...Need sleep...
Oh, there's more to do? Yay.
